Video-sharing site YouTube hits 1 billion mark in March 2013

CALIFORNIA-YouTube has announced that it has reached one billion users, making it as the world’s biggest video-sharing website.

“If YouTube were a country, we’d be the third largest in the world after China and India,” the website said.

Launched in February 2005, YouTube is now owned and managed by another giant search-site Google. It is estimated that YouTube has generated about $1.3bn in video advertising alone.

The world’s first billion-view in YouTube is dance craze video “Gangnam Style” performed by South Korean artist Psy’s.

YouTube said that one in every two internet users visits the site.
