Who would order a cake that’s worth almost £50 million?
Apparently, there’s one: a wealthy Arab who wanted no less than an ultra-extravagant cake for a daughter’s engagement and birthday party.
Shaped by former fashion designer Debbie Wingham, the cake was inspired by a fashion catwalk concept and is adorned with over 4,000 real diamonds. The six-foot long cake also featured dresses she designed during her heyday.
The cake was also stylized with small figures of smartphones and tablets, as well as designer handbags, shoes, and shades.
The cake which took 1,100 hours to make weighs 450kg was encrusted with 15 5-carat white diamonds, a 6.4-carat yellow diamond, a 5.2-carat pink diamond, 73 3-carat black diamonds, 73 3-carat white diamonds and 400-1 carat white diamonds.
Wingham’s cake exceeded the most expensive price of a cake created by Tim Smith in 2013 which cost £32.4 million.
