As a precautionary measure, some barangays at San Jose district in Tacloban city have already advised their constituents to go to safer ground as early as Friday morning , this as typhoon “Basyang” is expected to make its landfall in Surigao province late Friday evening or early Saturday.

It can be recalled also that during the typhoon Agaton, some “tents cities” in the area were also flooded, said Olive Tiu, regional director of the Philippine Information Agency.

San Jose district, a coastal area in Tacloban, bore the brunt of the super typhoon Yolanda last year. Over 6,000 killed during the storm, with Tacloban having the biggest number of casualties.

The Regional disaster risk reduction management council cautioned residents in low lying and mountainous areas under public storm signal number 1 against possible flashfloods and landlslides.

Fishing boats and other seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the eastern seaboards of central and southern Luzon and of visayas due to the typhoon, RDRRMC said.
