TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines – Tacloban City Vice-Mayor Jerry Yaokasin is not contented with the 5th State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Benigno Simeon Aquino III even though it ended for more than an hour.
In an interview, Yaokasin said that Taclobanon wants to know the plans of the national government with regards to the support for the people affected by the super typhoon Yolanda.
He also said that the Taclobanon will surely react negatively with Aquino’s statement pertaining to their response after the devastation brought by the super typhoon.
“If you’re from Tacloban, you will hear some negative feedbacks from the Taclobanon especially in social networking site such as facebook and twitter,” Yaokasin said.
“It’s very hard to say that the people of Tacloban is happy with the response of the national government for until now there are Taclobanons who still need the help of the national government,” he added.
As a Yolanda survivor, Yaokasin believes that anyone at this time will not be satisfied and contented with the accomplishment of the national government in typhoon Yolanda affected areas as there are still issues to be settled such as the problem on housing, livelihood, and infrastructure.
“The Taclobanon wants to hear a much more detailed and specific report with regards to their accomplishment and future plans to the typhoon affected areas particularly on what kind of assistance that the national government has given and to be given,” Yaokasin emphasized.
He further stated that Taclobanon also wants to hear the plans of Aquino for the city of Tacloban in his last two years of administration.
Nevertheless, Yaokasin hopes that the national government will make its support in typhoon affected areas faster as part of its “Build Back Better” campaign.
