Former Makati City Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado is challenging Vice President Jejomar Binay, to face him in a public forum to prove who is lying and who is telling the truth.
“Hinahamon ko si Vice President Jejomar Binay na magharap-harap na lang kami sa Senado para malaman ng taong bayan kung sino ang nagsisinungaling at sino ang nagsasabi ng totoo,” he said.(I am challenging Vice President Jejomar Binay to face off with me at the Senate so that the people will know who is lying and who is telling the truth.)
Furthermore, in flinging his challenge to Binay in radio interviews from abroad, Mercado said that if Binay doesn’t want to confront him at the Senate, they could debate in any public place.
Mercado added that he would immediately return to the Philippines from his vacation in the U.S. if Binay would take his challenge.
Binay, however, rejected Mercado’s challenge.
“Wala na, ano ba? Luma na yun.”(Nothing, it’s already antiquated.) Binay in an interviewsaidwhen asked if he has any plans to face Mercado.
Cavite Govenor Jonvic Remulla, the Vice President’s spokesperson for political affairs, said that the Vice President prefers to focus on his work than debate with liars, perjurers, and paid hacks of the desperate opposition to the Vice President.
Meanwhile, Binay also defended himself from observations that his market tours in Caloocan on Monday can be considered early campaigning for the 2016 presidential elections.
He said he’s just doing his job as a public servant.
“You want to say it’s campaigning, bakit? What’s wrong with what I’m doing?” said the Vice-President.
This is the third week of his market rounds since backing out of a debate with Senator Antonio Trillanes IV and refusing to attend a Senate investigation on alleged hidden wealth of the Vice President’s family. (MYLA ANN M. JOMADIAO, LNU Intern)
