The invitation was made by NUP president and Nueva Ecija Rep. Rodolfo Antonino.
“Speaker Belmonte is our leader at the House of Representatives and choosing him as our party’s inspirational leader is a recognition of the Speaker’s able leadership in uniting the various political parties to ensure the enactment of laws strengthening the government’s reform program,” Antonino said in a press release.
NUP is one of the biggest political group in the country and is about the same size of members in the House of Representatives and way larger than the Nacionalista Party.
The selection process of having Belmonte as the party’s honorary chairman went smoothly and unanimous which shows the full support of its members on the Aquino administration’s legislative agenda.
National Unity Party was accredited by the Commission of Elections as a national party in a resolution dated October 5, 2011.
