MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte said on Thursday that he made a promise to God that he will stop cussing in his speeches.
“I was looking at the skies as I was coming over here. Everybody was asleep snoring. A voice said that you know ‘If you don’t stop, I will bring this plane down now.’ And I said, who is this? Of course, it’s God. Oh, Okay. So, I promised God not to express slang, cuss words,” Duterte said upon arriving in Davao City after his three-day official visit to Japan.
“You guys hear me right because a promise to God is a promise to the Filipino people,” he added.
The President admitted that he has not always been foul-mouthed and believed that there’s always a time for cussing.
“There is always a time to be foul-mouthed. I don’t like anybody reading my mind. It’s all calibrated, it’s always timing. Watch out for one thing, that’s what I’ve learned, miscalculation,” he explained.
For the record, Duterte did not curse once during the press briefing.
