CALBAYOG CITY (PNA) — Calbayog City mayor Ronaldo Aquino who is seeking for reelection under the Aquino administration ticket appealed to his opponents to observe a peaceful conduct of the May 2013 polls.
Without mentioning names, Aquino said his opponent resorted to “dirty tactics” just to knock him down in the mayoralty race in the city. His campaign posters bearing his face and name were scattered throughout the city’s main streets but already blackened by dirt and paints.
He added that his political nemesis and their supporters, if possible, should avoid creating mess that would lead to chaos between the two opposing parties.
“My posters are just few and limited please don’t do that to me,” the mayor pleaded. He said that he cannot do same because it is not his style.
Meanwhile, Liberal Party (LP) gubernatorial aspirant Aika Uy – Delgado also aired the same sentiments against their opponents and advised public to vote wisely and responsible.
Aika is the eldest daughter of the late Calbayog City Mayor Reynaldo Uy, who was killed two years ago by unidentified gunmen in the town of Hinabangan. The killing was linked to Uy’s political rivals.
The LP bet for Samar’s top post also believed that some policemen in Samar have biases in favor of other politicians in the province. She disclosed that on April 17, some policemen strafed with bullets one of the party cars on suspicion that it boarded two wanted criminals.
It appeared, however, that the criminals they were pursuing were not in the candidates’ convoy. Police officials refused to comment in several interview attempts but said it was a legitimate police operation.
DILG Secretary Mar Roxas who was in the city on Thursday promised to investigate the matter. He assured that there will be no white wash for the cops involved. Secretary Roxas, Aika said, will relieve all policemen involved in the incident and will be transferred to Leyte soon. (PNA)
