MANILA, Philippines- Customs Commissioner Rozzano Biazon said that the courtesy resignation of Bureau of Customs (BOC) collectors is a plan for modernization.

Biazon said the modernization of BOC shall identify those who support the reform. He also hopes that the statement of President Benigno Simeon Aquino III on his State of the Nation Address (SONA) towards Custom employees will result to a good innovation.

“We hope that what happened now shall cause for a compelling reason for the reformation of Bureau of Customs employees,” Biazon said.

“The move will be help to identify those who support the call for reform, especially after BOC was criticized during the SONA,” he added.

The 17 collection districts of BOC shall undergo massive re-shuffling. According to the Commissioner, there will probably re-assignments for those who didn’t submit relinquishments and he then assured they will not be fired.

Biazon said that people who agree with him are with him and those disagree, are against his side.

“By the end of the day if I don’t receive all those letters, I will have the judgment. It only means they are not with me, and if they are not with me, they are against me,” he said.

With regards to this reform initiative, there are already 45 out of 57 port collectors who submitted resignation letters.
