IN CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, the Sunday afternoon mass was heard and the traffic started to swell as believers poured into the church and filled its frontage. Alongside the street were the ‘palaspas’ or palm designers/makers who also took the opportunity to have a share of the blessings from the church. Blessed with holy water, ‘palaspas’ are believed to ward off bad spirits and are usually put at the house entrance or near the windows if not at the altars.
