Philhealth president and chief executive officer Dr. Eduardo Banzon disclosed Tuesday that online filing for reimbursement of hospital bills incurred abroad will be available for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) next year.

“We want covered OFWs to receive immediate financial relief in the event they become ill and seek hospitalization in their host countries… Our plan is to install by next year a system that will allow OFWs to simply submit online their individual claims for repayment,” Banzon said in a statement.

According to Banzon, said development will put more value to contributing members abroad.

Their plan however is to start with those selected countries where there is a large number of OFWs.

Consequently OFW Philhealth members hospitalized abroad may file claims for refund by submitting important hard documents within six months to the nearest Philhealth office near their resident area in the Philippines.

The documents include Philhealth Claim Form 1; a photocopy of the claimant’s latest Member Data Record, or contribution payment receipt; and a medical certificate with complete diagnosis, period of confinement and services rendered.

Also to be attached is the hospital billing statement and/or official receipts with itemized charges and other supporting documents in English.
