Joramie Garcia Tores an overseas Filipino worker has formally filed a case against the Malaysian couple after experiencing maltreatment and human trafficking for 7 months in Denai Alam.
The couple, Mohamad Afzan Azemi, a 35 year old cost control officer of an oil exploration company and his wife Norazni Razali, a 30 year old finance manager pleaded as not guilty to the charge as they stand before Judge Mohd Sabri Ismai in Shah Alam session court.
The Malaysian couple was accused of trading Joramie Garcia Tores for forced labor through maltreatment.
The couple, if found guilty, could face imprisonment of not less than three years and a maximum of 20 year and a fine. This is under Section 13(b) of the Anti-Trafficking In Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act of 2007 and read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.
Nor Azilah Mat, the Deputy Public Prosecutor, suggested not allowing the couple to bail as the offense involves bilateral relations with the Philippines.
However, if the court grants bail, Joramie requests that bail be set at RM100, 000 (P1.2 million) for the injuries she obtained. Counsel K. Murali, demanded a lower cost of RM10,000, for the Malaysian couple have two children aged two and four, with one of them still breastfeeding.
Judge Mohd Sabri approved that the couple could be freed, each bail of RM20,000 with one surety. He also scheduled October 24 for mention.
