Unidentified aircraft exploded midair and crashed in mountainous areas near Esperanza town in Sultan Kudarat province yesterday before noon.
The incident was witnessed by residents of Sitio Dapulan in Barangay Margues.
“They first heard a loud explosion and then saw a plane going down towards the mountains,” Mayor Esperanza Helen Latog said in a radio interview.
Latog said, she has dispatched rescue teams to the upland portions of her town after the crash was reported by residents at past 11 a.m.
The aircraft was initially believed to be an airplane but local officials said they could not make any confirmation on the matter.
“The reports are still sketchy. The Armed Forces had also dispatched helicopters to check on reports that the plane fell in the sea somewhere near Datu Blah Sinsuat municipality (in Maguindanao),” said Brig. Gen. Noli Orense.
“We still have to check too if it’s a commercial plane or a private plane,” Orense said.
Similar situation reported by DZBB Super Radyo, last March 11, 2015 an unidentified plane crashed near Brooke’s Point in Palawan. According to the initial information from the Philippine Coast Guard and Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, the plane crashed at 3:09 p.m. 10 nautical miles from Brooke’s Point.
He clarified that residents have not actually seen any aircraft or object crashing into the mountains but just heard a loud explosion.
However, what fell into the area looked like an aircraft of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) of the United States government, which might have fallen out of orbit and crashed according to some of the police and the local units in Esperanza.
