TACLOBAN CITY- The “Sangyawan Ha Tacloban” has officially opened at Balyuan Park, marking the return of the city’s grand festival after typhoon Yolanda devastation in November 2013.

“The return of our grand Sangyaw festival brings hope that we can rise again as a people and as a city,” said city councilor and tourism chairperson Cristina Gonzales-Romualdez.

This year’s theme is “Resilient Tacloban.”

The month-long festivity include music, cultural, sports and religious activities in honor of its patron Sr. Sto. Nino.

Manila-based bands set to perform in the city include Rocksteddy, Cueshe, Razorback, Gloc-9, Parokya ni Edgar, Wolfgang, Aegis,True Faith, Ely Buendia and Pupil, Greyhoundz, along with showbiz personalities, local musicians, and many more.

The city also announced the return of Sangyaw Parade of Lights, Sangyaw Awards, and Miss Tacloban beauty pageant.

A “Resilient Summit” will be held along with the various activities.

“We’re going to make it known to the world that Tacloban has bounced back.This event brings out the best of Tacloban. Sangyaw 2015 is bigger and brighter,” Romualdez said.

“We can showcase to the world that we are beautiful and progressive despite what happened to us during super typhoon Yolanda,” she added, citing how the grand festival will help revive the city’s economy and tourism after the powerful typhoon.
