MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte- The old public plaza that was inevitably subjected to battering storms and typhoons for decades will undergo a distinct change that will cost the city government an estimated PHP9 million.
Mayor Maloney Samaco said that the old plaza’s grasses will be replaced with tiles, including its promenades.
During the past decades, the plaza has been a venue of various events – amateur singing contests, raffle draws, product promotions, free movies by private companies, musical and magic shows, political campaigns during elections and sports activities.
“What remains of the grass growth will only be seen at the back of the Rizal monument,” he said.
“Grasses are hard to maintain particularly during hot seasons. They get withered from intense heat and the ground becomes muddy on rainy days.”
The 2,000 square meters plaza will have a public stage that can be used for public events.
A new fountain will also be installed including white bright lamps and splashing waters.PNA
