Davao, Philippines – A Chinese businesswoman who was kidnapped in Quezon City was rescued in Davao Thursday.

Initial reports said that three members of “Bye bye group” kidnap-for-ransom gang were killed in a shoot-out yesterday while one of the suspects was flown back to Metro Manila.

Senior Superintendent Ronald de la Rosa, director of the Davao City Police Office, said that the incident started on July 5 in San Francisco del Monte, Quezon City and the perpetrators brought the victim, Sally Chua, to Davao via roll-on, roll-off vessel.

De la Rosa said that members of the Anti-Kidnapping Group and the Special Weapons and Tactics Team of the local police caught the perpetrators outside the bank, where the supposed pay-off would take place, and engaged them in a shoot-out.

He further stated that there are 10 other suspects who managed to escape during the firefight.

De la Rosa however said the police have already “locked down” the city for the arrest of the remaining perpetrators.

“We are still in pursuit of the suspects. I have already ordered the setting up of roadblocks to stop the movement of perpetrators,” he said.

De la Rosa said that the victim was able to convinced the suspects to have the pay-off in Davao City knowing that the local government would not tolerate the crime.

“The victim was able to manipulate the situation and convinced her abductors to do the pay-off in Davao City hoping that the authorities would eventually get them,” De la Rosa said.

He added the victim was safe but remained shaken because of the ordeal.

Initial investigations revealed that the “Bye Bye Group” is composed of members from Ilocandia, Samar and Bukidnon.
