MANILA-For lacking residency requirement of the Constitution for presidential candidates, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) three-member division on Tuesday disqualified Senator Grace Poe from the 2016 national elections.

“Accordingly, the Certificate of Candidacy for President of the Republic of the Philippines in the May 9, 2016 National and Local Elections filed by respondent Mary Grace Natividad Sonora Poe Llamanzares is hereby cancelled,” the Comelec en-banc said in its 35-page resolution.

According to Comelec commissioners Arthur Lim, Al Parreño, and Sheriff Abas, Sen. Poe was disqualified due to her failure to meet the 10-year residency required by law for a presidential position.
