TACLOBAN CITY– Mayor Maloney Samaco of Maasin City in Southern Leyte took pride on the recent boxing win of brothers Albert and Jason Pagara, young boxing champions in their city.
“It surely is Pinoy Pride and our own Maasin Pride,” said Samaco, referring to the “magnificent win” of the Pagara brothers during the “Pinoy Pride 32: Duel in Dubai 2” at the Dubai World Trade Center, United Arab Emirates on Saturday.
Samaco then congratulated the two for making it on their reported first overseas fight.
According to Samaco, they will host a “heroes welcome” for the two during its scheduled fiesta boxing event on August 16. The city’s fiesta day is on August 15.
In defense of his IBF Inter-Continental super bantamweight title, “Prince” Albert floored Jesus Rios of Mexico instantly during the first round.
Albert’s elder brother Jason also won against Mexican boxer Ramiro Alcaraz by unanimous decision in their non-title bout.
Back home, Albert Pagara was named as one of the Outstanding Southern Leyteños due to his contribution in the sporting event in the province. PNA
