MANILA, Philippines-Investigations revealed that sandwiches and buns are being used to sneak illegal drugs inside jail facilities, according to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
Just recently a 13-year-old boy tried to sneak a sachet of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu inside the South Cotabato Provincial Jail by hiding the drug in a hamburger bun.
The boy went to the jail facility to visit a detained friend.
“Drug traffickers who are trying to bring illegal drugs into penitentiary facilities are getting more brazen and ingenious to avoid suspicion from jail guards,” said PDEA Director General Undersecretary Arturo G. Cacdac, Jr.
Also PDEA reported that there are drugs being confiscated from jail visitors with children in tow.
They slipped illegal substance by concealing it inside children’s clothing.
“We are confident that the national jail management is doing its job. However, stricter policies and tight precautionary measures during visiting hours must be undertaken to ensure that no contrabands, particularly illegal drugs, will find their way inside the country’s prisons,” added Cacdac.
