Father Clay: The Whole Point Of Sexual Intercourse And Marriage Is To Bring Children Into The World
Father Dave Clay, a 79-year-old priest, assistant executive secretary of Commission Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Commission on Family and Life said, “The whole point of sexual intercourse and marriage is to bring children into the world”.
Marriage is considered as a holy sacrament in some religion especially Roman Catholic.
“We’re discriminating against God if we’re in favor of same-sex marriage”, Clay said.
However, he clarified he is not discriminating against the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community.
“I don’t like discrimination. We should have great love and respect for them” Father Clay said.
Filipinos Against Same-Sex Marriage
Majority or 65% of Filipinos are against same-sex marriage or deemed homosexuality “morally unacceptable,” a 2013 survey by the Pew Research Center showed.
While the Spain who brought Catholicism in an opposite side were “morally accepted with a 55%.
But not all churches have closed doors to support LGTB.The Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) has churches in Quezon City, Makati, and Baguio where they hold Rites of Holy Union or the “spiritual joining of two persons.”
Where the ceremonies are not legally recognized, but for many Filipinos, this is the closest they could ever get to matrimony.
