CAMP LUKBAN, Catbalogan city- The 8ID joins the rest of the Army Units nationwide in celebrating the 116th Founding Anniversary of the Philippine Army with the theme Sundalo: Bayani ka ng Bayan ko.

BGen. Virgilio M. Espineli, Assistant Division Commander of 8ID delivers the message of Lt. Gen. Noel A. Coballes AFP, Commanding General, Philippine Army during the simultaneous flag raising ceremony today.

Gen. Coballes stressed the strengthening of the Non-Commission Officer Corps; enhancing the general welfare of all Army personnel through the Personnel and Family Welfare Programs; enriched the medical services through the strengthening of the forward medical services and field station hospitals and the improvement of the benefits to include the on-base and off-base housing in line with the program of the President.

The Army anniversary set a series of activities in line with the anniversary celebration which includes Squad Challenge Competition, Tree Planting Activity and Raffle Draw.The Squad Challenge 2013 (SC13) last March 5-7, 2013 was participated by all infantry squads coming from tactical units of 8ID which was randomly selected through draw lots. 1st Squad, 2nd Platoon, Alpha Company from the 63rd Infantry (Innovator) Battalion emerged champion in the 3-day event.

In related event, 1,000 mahogany trees were planted by Officers, personnel and civilian employees of 8ID at Camp Lukban planting site yesterday, March 21. Furthermore, five mountain bikes, 29” flat screen Sanyo TV set and 5 cu’ ft. Sanyo refrigerator were the items included in the raffle draw as part of the PA anniversary celebration today.

Likewise the 19th Infantry Battalion facilitated a Bloodletting activity in coordination with Philippine National Red Cross Ormoc City Chapter in Ormoc City and generated a total of 4,500 cc of blood from the military troops and civilian donors.(PR)
