REENA VIVIENNE C. PINEDA of Asian Development Foundation College was named this year’s Miss Tacloban on Saturday evening at the city Astrodome.

Pineda also won People’s Choice Award, Best in Swimwear, Miss Talent, Best in Production number and Best in Philippine Terno, among other special awards.

Along with her crown, Pineda received P50, 000.00, additional cash prizes and gifts from various corporate sponsors, and a round-trip to Tacloban-Cebu-Japan.

She will also act as goodwill ambassadress of the city government of Tacloban.

Julienne B. Daffon of Remedios Trinidad Romualdez Medical was the first runner-up.

The other three finalists were Kate A. Mengullo of Saint Paul School of Business and Law, Roseanne S. Cabia of Eastern Visayas State University, and Pamela Denise L. Gonzales of Remedios Trinidad Romualdez Medical Foundation.

“Only a few hours after the strong typhoon Yolanda, we already dusted off the dirt in our streets and wore again the smiles on our faces,” eighteen-year old Pineda said on the resiliency of the Taclobanons during the question and answer portion, earning her the admiration of the judges.

Pineda, who is into photography and playing ukulele, wanted to become a lawyer or filmmaker someday.

She also liked to meet Pres. Benigno Aquino III.

City councilor and tourism chairperson Cristina Gonzales-Romualdez earlier said that this year’s Miss Tacloban is a grand celebration of “femininity, grace and resilience” due to the rebuilding phase in the city after it was levelled by typhoon Yolanda in November 2013.

The 12 candidates who vied for the crown came from different colleges and universities in the city.
