MANILA, Philippines- David Foster discovered Mark Mabasa’s singing prowess during his Singapore concert last Friday and invited the “The X Factor Philippines” finalist to perform in his show’s second night.

Mabasa wowed Foster when he got the chance to go upstage and do an impromptu performance of “The Last Time” when the international music producer called an audience up during his “David Foster and Friends” Asian tour concert in Singapore.

“Everytime naman meron talaga [na parte ng concert] na magtatawag siya sa audience,” Mabasa started. “That time kasi ang daming nagtataas ng kamay, nagtaas ako ng kamay. Eh ‘yung mga katabi ko, naririnig ako kumanta, sumasabay ako kay David. So tinuturo nila ako, ‘Here, he’s good!’ So tinawag ako ni David,”

“Pagkanta ko, two lines pa lang, sabi niya, ‘Wow, come up here,'” the X Factor finalist recalled. “Ang ginawa ko na lang, kumanta na lang ako ng best ko. Twenty seconds lang usapan namin, tapos sabi niya, do another verse, hanggang sa nabuo na namin ‘yung song,”

He even proudly announced his blood when he was asked where he is from. “Tinanong niya ako, taga-saan ako, ‘I am from the Philippines!’ Tapos sigawan ‘yung mga tao. Sabi niya, ‘Wow,'”

After the concert, Mabasa had a talk with Foster backstage. “Sinabi niya how much he appreciates me, sinabi niya, ‘You’re good,”

He was already going to the airport to head home when manager Grace Mendoza got a call from Foster who wanted Mabasa to perform in his Singapore concert’s second night. “Hinahanap ako ni David, he wants me to sing that night, kaya lang na sa airport na kami, pauwi na kami ng Philippines,” Mabasa said.

The X Factor finalist is open to the possibility of working with Foster, following the steps of X Factor Philippines judge, Charice.

“Let’s pray for the best thing to happen. I’m always ready, I’m born ready. I’ve been waiting for this all my life, sana, let’s pray for the best,” he said.
