Two Philippine Air Force (PAF) pilots died in an aircraft crash during an exhibition flight on January 31, Saturday morning, in Batangas for Nasugbu’s Liberation Day.
“PAF trainer aircraft SF-260FH Number 1034 crashed around 300 meters off the shoreline of Barangay Bucana, Nasugbu, Batangas,” PAF spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Enrico Canaya confirmed.
Canaya identified the casualties as Capt. John Bayao, an instructor pilot, and Lt. Al-Nazer Jana, a student pilot.
Their remains were recovered some 20 feet below the water’s surface, Nasugbu local police reported.
The fatalities were flown by PAF helicopters to Villamor Air Base around 11:40 a.m, nearly two hours after the plane crashed.
The ill-fated plane was part of a 3-aircraft formation training mission and a participant in an exhibition flight during the 70th Liberation Day commemoration in the province.
Canaya refused to discuss the possible causes of the mishap but he assured that PAF will provide assistance for the families of the two pilots who “had died in the line of duty.”
Meanwhile, PAF chief Lieutenant General Jeffrey Delgado has ordered an investigation of the incident.
