Veteran columnist Mon Tulfo caught fire on the internet once again, this time for his commentary on the “seemingly unending” trial of retired Maj. Gen. JovitoPalparan on the charges of kidnapping and serious illegal detention.
On his commentary at the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Tulfo stresses that that accused military man had nothing to do with the disappearance of two UP students SherlynCadapan and Karen Empeño, and that Palparan most probably didn’t know that theyeven existed.
The commentary ignited strong sentiments from netizens, many of which expressed their support for Palparan, who is currently detained at the Philippine Army headquarters in Fort Bonifacio.
According to one comment, Palparan and his co-accused Lt. Col. Felipe Anotado and S/Sgt. Edgardo Osorio should be commended for “waging war against the enemy of the state.” Others meanwhile call for him to seek public office in the 2016 elections.
Rumors of Palparan running for office has been circulating on and off since 2009.
Other netizensmeanwhile were outraged on Tulfo’s opinions towards another high profile politician, Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile. Tulfo’s blatant support for the release of the 91-year-old senator gave birth to questions from online spectators, including speculations that he is actually afraid of going against Enrile.
