Health Secretary Janette Garin visited Leyte today, August 17, to check on the health conditions of Leyteños and to distribute cash assistance to employees of Department of Health (DOH) Regional Office 8 who have been affected by typhoons Yolanda and Sendong.
In a Facebook advisory yesterday by Leyte Vice Governor Carlo Loreto, employees of DOH in the region who were victims of typhoons Yolanda and Sendong will receive the cash assistance of P100,000 (totally damaged) and P30,000 (partially damaged).
The said amounts will be distributed in 2 payments, according to Loreto’s advisory.
The cash assistance was taken from the Presidential Social Fund.
Meanwhile, on the same day, Garin visited Tacloban bunkhouses and conducted the “One Family Fun Day” program at Brgy. 62-A, Sagkahan, Tacloban City.
The program offered five health care services such as maternal check-up, infant care, child care, HIV/AIDS check-up and Service Delivery Network (SDN) to the families living in the area.
Garin encouraged the people to collaborate with the government in relation with health for a better community and healthier families.
“Instead of lambasting in each other let us all hold hands and work together because the government is here to help you, you should also be thinking how the government help you and how can you help the government. It is actually a symbiotic relationship. Think on how you can coordinate and cooperate with the government health,” the secretary said.
Garin also had a dialogue dubbed as “Ang Bayan at ang Kalihim” with the attending participants and families where she answered queries and concerns pertaining to health.
The secretary was joined by Dr. Minerva Molon, DOH Regional Director RO-8; Walter Bacaresa, Philhealth Regional Vice-President; Board Member Mimietta Bagulaya; and representatives from the Department of Education (DepEd), National Nutrition Council, TESDA, City Health Office, Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center (EVRMC), and from the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tacloban.
Part of the one day event were also the ceremonial turn-over of Health Facility Enhancement Program (HFEP) equipment to Tacloban City Hospital, Carigara RHU and Ormoc City Hospital and the “Usapang Kalihim”, Garin’s brief dialogue with the DOH regional staff.
