MANILA, Philippines–“Christmas is a season of peace and goodwill. It is just fitting that everyone of us should strive to find peace and goodwill in our country.”

So said Herminio Coloma Jr., Presidential Communications Operations Office head, speaking on behalf of Pres. Benigno Aquino III when asked whether Aquino is likely to accept the call for reconciliation earlier made by Tacloban mayor Alfred Romualdez through the media.

“The President is the leader of  the country, and in all times he is very open to everyone. It is not in his mindset to have enemies here and there,” Coloma said in a press briefing Thursday.

According to Coloma, Pres. Aquino is always keen to have good relationship with those he can help.

Sought for confirmation on the issue of reconciliation, Tacloban city administrator Atty. Tecson John Lim, speaking on behalf of Mayor Romualdez, in a phone message said: “I am sure mayor Alfred is.”

The rift between Aquino and Romualdez reportedly took an ugly turn during the post-typhoon Yolanda in Tacloban.
