The Police Regional Office 8 (PRO8) will soon be purchasing body cameras which will be used during their future police operations. This was announced by the PRO8 Regional Director, PCSupt. Gilberto DC Cruz announced on Monday, September 12.

A total of twenty (20) body cameras will be purchase which will be utilized by all the police around who are conducting police operations especially those which are drug related. Cruz said the cameras may become available to the police by Monday next week.

According to Cruz, the cameras will probably be the first in the country if no other regions will be able to purchase one by Monday. The cameras will be of big help to the EV police during their operations, Cruz said.

The cameras are funded by the PRO8 with the help of an unnamed good Samaritan from Manila.

Aside from the 20 cameras from the region, the National PNP will also be purchasing 175,000 units of body cameras as response to the call of the president for policemen to have body cameras on them during raids. These will then be distributed to the different regional offices around the country.

Cruz also announced during the press briefing that the PRO8 will soon be allowing the media to accompany them during their police operations in the region. Basic firing training will also be conducted on Saturday, September 16, 2017, for all media correspondents who will be documenting their future operations.

The official is encouraging the media to participate as also stated by President Rodrigo Duterte himself in his recent statements.

Cruz expects that the confidence of the public to their organization will soon be built back with the existence of the body cameras during operations and also to end the speculations on planted evidences.
