The latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey revealed the all-time low public satisfaction ratings of President Benigno Aquino III since he assumed office in 2010.
The survey released on Monday, April 6, by SWS showed Aquino’s +11 net satisfaction for the first quarter of 2015, which is way low compared to his +39 rating in December last year.
The survey revealed that only 47 percent of Filipinos are satisfied with the performance of the president, down 16 percent from his rating in the previous quarter which is 63 percent.
However, half of those who participated in the said survey wants Aquino to finish his term – with only 32 percent agreeing the call by some for the president to resign.
SWS conducted the survey from March 20 to 23 with 1,200 respondents.
Meanwhile, Malacañan acknowledged the decline in the president’s ratings and said that it was due to the Mamasapano clash and is “mostly media-related.”
“A significant factor which contributed to the decline in the satisfaction rating of the President is the Mamasapano clash in Maguindanao last January 25,” Communications Secretary Herminio “Sonny” Coloma Jr. said via Inquirer.
“We also recognize that public opinion surveys are based on information from the media being read and consumed by the country’s citizens. In our view, the decline is mostly media-related,” Coloma added.
He then appealed to the media to disseminate truthful information for the Filipinos to understand the position of the government.
