Manila, Philippines – The Philippines awaits for its 100 millionth citizen expected on Sunday, July 27, 2014, motioning another breakthrough on the country’s population.
The Population Commission (POPCOM-6) supposed that the hundredth millionth baby will be coming from Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, Negros Occidental, and Iloilo City.
“This demographic event brings both a positive promise as well as challenge to the country as it struggles to give its people a better quality life,” according to POPCOM-6 via The Daily Guardian.
“The birth of the 100-millionth Filipino baby “is a strong indication to highlight the importance of the Philippine Population Management program (PPMP) in pursuing national and local development,” POPCOM-6 added.
Moreover, POPCOM-6 also said that it is “a call to hasten POPCOM’s advocacy that every child be born wanted and ensured of her/his basic rights to education, health and development.”
As a symbol of this occasion, POPCOM-6 will be acknowledging the babies on the stated places by rewarding them starter kits worth P5, 000 each, but only if the babies are born at 12:06 a.m. or seconds/minutes later; born in a government licensed health facility; delivered through normal spontaneous delivery; the health facility observes the Philippine Standard Time; and the birth is certified by the attending doctor.
The recognition of the symbolic babies will be done in coordination with the Department of Health and its involved agencies such as POPCOM, PhilHealth and the National Nutrition Council, local government units and other partner agencies.
Meanwhile, the population of Western Visayas will reach 7,518,063 on the same date.
