PALO, LEYTE- One died in a vehicular accident involving a privately owned Toyota Hiace Van and a single motorcycle along the national highway of Barangay Libertad, Palo, at around 6:00 pm last August 13, 2017.
The victim, Samuel Ranido, 38 years old, resident of Brgy. San Roque, Sta. Fe, Leyte, was brought to the Leyte Provincial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Alongside with the victim were his passengers, Jaime Ranilo, and Rogelio Ranido who were immediately treated and are now in a stable condition.
According to the initial police report of the Palo PNP, Po3 Jerson Rosales, assigned police in Tacloban, was driving the Toyota Hiace taking the route from Sta. Fe to Palo proper while Ranido was taking the opposite direction. Upon reaching the site of occurrence, Rosales overtook a sidecar motorcycle ahead of him as Ranido encroached the other lane that resulted the collision.
Rosales immediately submitted himself to the police after the incident and was detained at the Palo Municipal Police Office. Police Chief Inspector Joselito M. Villas said that no cases has been filed yet against the PUV driver and will be release after 36 hours of detention if no case is filed against him.
The vehicles are now in the possession of the Palo PNP and investigations are still conducted regarding the incident.
