Palo, Leyte–Several Cardinals and 60 Bishops from around the country are expected to concelebrate mass with Palo Archbishop John Du, November 28, 2012 as the Metropolitan Archdiocese celebrates its 75th Anniversary.
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Palo has lined up several activities leading to its Diamond Jubilee and according to its Spokesperson these will highlight the status of the diocese as a religious center of Region 8.
According to Father Amadeo Alvero top Prelates expected to attend the 9:30 am Pontifical Mass on November 28th at the Palo Metropolitan are Cardinals Ricardo Vidal, Gaudencio Rosales, Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle and priests from different dioceses in the country.
Prior to the high mass, the Holy Door will be opened to symbolize the start of the Jubilee Year. It will remain open for the rest of the year until November 28, 2013.
On November 24, a Run Ride and Fun Run will be simultaneously held, starting at Balyuan in Tacloban City and Palo, respectively said Fr. Alvero.
Registration for the activity will be P250 for the general public and P 100 for students.
The fun ride on the other hand, will pass through the towns of Palo and Tanauan and will end at Balyuan.
A grand procession will be held on November 25 that will be participated by parishes under the Vicariate of Tacloban; before the procession a mass will be held, 2:30 pm at the Sto. Niño Church.
A parade of schools will be held on November 26 that will start at the Balyuan, Alvero added.
The Archdiocese which was first created as a diocese on November 28,1937 includes the Vicariate of Tacloban Ormoc, Burauen, Abuyog, Mahaplag and Carigara.
As a Metropolitan Archdiocese four other suffragan dioceses are under its jurisdiction: Calbayog, Borongan. Catarman and Naval. There are a total of 129 diocesan and 8 religious priests serving the Archdiocese of Palo.
