Parring criticisms that President Benigno Aquino III was doing an overreaction when he personally appeared along with Interior and Local Secretary Mar Roxas on Sunday’s mall heist in Manila, Malacanang Palace on Monday said the Aquino wanted to see the situation himself.

“Well, he decided to… He wanted to see what the circumstances in the heist in SM North and to also ensure that there will be a proper investigation so, he spoke to Philippine National Police Chief Alan Purisima and also I believe to DILG Secretary Roxas, who was also there, subsequently,” said Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda.

Asked if the police has fresh mandate in view of the apparent increasing incidence of criminalities this holiday, Lacierda answered, saying: “I have no knowledge if there are fresh instructions but the PNP is fully aware that this is an opportunity that will happen during holidays.”

“So enforcement measures have… They’ve taken this as part of their duty during this holiday season.”

The police have eyed “Martilyo gang” as behind the robbery of jewelries in said department store.
