Amidst the government’s war against drugs, the Province of Leyte released the drug test results of the vice governor, the board members and the officials of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

13 members of the provincial board passed the mandatory drug testing conducted last September 9, 2016 by the Divine Rays Diagnostic and Medical Supplies.

The members include Vice Governor Carlo Loreto, Board Members Gina Merilo, Ronulfo Abellanosa, Nicolo Villasin, Trinidad Apostol, Ma. Corazon Remandaban, Mesias Arevalo, Manuel Vincent Torres, Emmanuel Gacis, Florante Cayunda Jr., and SP Secretary Marni Rose Zatarain.

The drug test has been mandatory after Resolution No. 2016-434 of the Sanggunian required “all August Body and all elected and appointed local government unit officials in Leyte undergo random/mandatory drug testing and to disclose the drug test results to the public.”

In an interview, Loreto said that the drug testing supports the main thrusts of President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration against illegal drugs including “the drug-free workplace” program of the government.

“We consider this move as an initiative to dispel any possibilities that there are drug users or drug-dependents in the government workplace. The people deserve no less,” the vice governor said.

Words from Senator Angara

In his visit to Leyte last September 30, Senator Sonny Angara commended the efforts of the Sanggunian Panlalawigan of Leyte in its involvement in fighting illegal drugs.

“It is highly commendable that the vice governor and the provincial board members voluntarily undergo drug testing to set good example since they are role models to the public,” the senator said.
