Manila, Philippines – The National Collegiate Athletic Association Management Committee (NCAA ManCom) decided to cancel yesterday the scheduled games at The Arena in San Juan City.
The game was supposed to be a doubleheader featuring the defending champion San Beda and Arellano and the crucial match of Emilio Aguinaldo College against Mapua.
NCAA ManCom Chairman Dax Castillano said that they have come up with the decision due to heavy traffic in some parts of Metro Manila and as suggested by the members of the ManCom to postpone the basketball games.
“We understand the difficulties that our students and athletes may encounter heading into the venue. We will advise when the postponed game will be scheduled,” Castillano said.
Traffic build up began early yesterday as thousands of buses, jeepneys and private vehicles were mobilized to transport hundreds of thousands of Iglesia ni Cristo faithful to attend the INC mission.
As a result, Metro Manila was practically paralyzed as the INC vehicles blocked major roads in total disregard of the other motorists’ right to use the same roads.
Policemen were also out of sight as traffic stood still for hours. Classes in many Metro Manila schools were also suspended.
Meanwhile, the fourth game day will be put on hold this season, making NCAA’s 89th season of Men’s Basketball tournament the longest in recent history. The tournament is expected to end on November
