Floyd “Money” Mayweather finished the fight early versus the strong MMA fighter Conor McGregor during their fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas Nevada maintaining his undefeated record of 50-0.
Despite being criticized, the Irish McGregor surprised the audience, including his critics, with his display of professionalism inside the ring and also taking the fight to the 10th round.
Mayweather failed to connect with the Irishman during the early rounds making McGregor ahead of him. In the second round, McGregor maintained his dominance on the ring by throwing series of punches to the undefeated Mayweather.
“I thought I took the early rounds pretty easy,” McGregor said. “He’s composed. He’s not that fast, he’s not that powerful, but boy, is he composed,” he added.
He later received a warning during the 3rd round after illegally connecting a punch to Mayweather’s top of the head. Mayweather was still failing to dominate the Irish fighter receiving blows to the head and failing to connect his punches to his opponent.
Maywaether finally put on the pressure to McGregor during the 7th round putting the MMA fighter on the ropes, landing a powerful right hook on McGregor. This has continued through the next round but McGregor was remaining his defiance against Mayweather.
Mayweather finally owned the 10th round as he landed blow by blow punches against the then fading Irish fighter. The American finally finished the fight during the 10th round with the referee stepping in to stop the fight.
McGregor in an interview later admitted that he got tired while receiving the punches and “gets a bit wobbly” when he is tired.
Despite the exchange of harsh words between the two fighters during the prefight conferences, Mayweather in an after-fight interview praised the performance shown by the Irish fighter inside the ring. “[Conor]’s a tough competitor – we gave the fans what they wanted to see,” he said. “He’s a lot better than I thought he was … he used different angles. But I was the better man,” he added.
Mayweather revealed after the fight that this was his last fight in boxing. “That was my last fight. Tonight I chose the right dance partner. Conor you were a great dance partner tonight.”
