Brian Poe was all smiles in a photo he posted online, but the supposedly innocent photo sparked the fire among netizens-thanks to the shoes he was wearing.
The former CNN junior reporter was sporting a pair of flashy 2011 Limited Edition Nike Mag 10 Back to the Future II Marty MacFly 2015 sneakers, reportedly with a price tag of $20,000 or around Php800k.
The photo sparked controversy not only because his mother is running for presidency, but more importantly on the implications this photo may bring if and when she wins. According to Poe, her son was already working and she taught her children how to save money, but she remained mum on how she taught her kids to use their earnings.
“Kung naaalala n’yo, ang aking anak e natrabaho rin. Kaya lang kinailangan niyang mag-leave dahil nga kailangan ma-maintain ng network na ‘yun ‘yung objectivity,” she said to reporters when asked about the viral photo. She also said that she already raised the issue to her son.
What does this bring to Poe, who is packaging her campaign as “maka-masa,” when her son is capable of buying shoes with such a hefty price tag?
