An incredible clash between a harbor seal and a giant octopus has taken the online world by storm.

The rare fight between the creatures was captured by photographer Bob Ianson off Ogden Point breakwater in Victoria, Canada earlier this week.

Ianson said that he was out for a walk with his family when he saw the seal and the octopus battling. He then pulled out his camera and took photos of the strange sight, Huffington Post reported.

“We were walking back, and up popped what at first looked like two seals,” Ianson said.

“The seal came up with this thing in its mouth, and it was almost as if he looked me in the eye, and presented it to me and said, ‘Look what I have!’ He was looking right at me,” he added.

Now, who won the battle?

Ultimately, it was the seal who won after it tangled the octopus for about ten minutes.

The photographer however said that it wasn’t a one-sided fight though, as there was a time when the octopus was wrapped around the seal and literally had its entire head.

The seal was estimated about four and a half feet long while the octopus can weigh as much as 50 pounds.

While the fight between the two creatures was truly astounding, Vancouver Aquarium research biologist Chad Nordstrom said that “octopus is a regular part of the harbor seal’s diet.”
