Police Regional Office 8 (PRO8) recovered different kinds of contrabands during its simultaneous Oplan Galugad in all detention facilities in Region 8 last September 9, 2017. The said operation was the first of its kind according to PCSupt. Gilberto DC Cruz, Regional Director of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Region 8.
Few of the items recovered were drug paraphernalia such as syringes, improvised tooters, lighters and a weighing scale which were found inside of some of the detention cells. According to Cruz, this could indicate that illegal drug trade exists in some of the detention facilities.
“Kailangan malaman natin kung bakit may mga ganyan. So kung may scale, may weighing scale, pwedeng may nagbibenta sa loob,” (We have to investigate why these items are in the facilities. If there is a weighing scale, it is possible that someone is selling illegal drugs inside), Cruz said. They will be giving more attention to the facilities where the items were found and identify the persons who are involved in selling or using the illegal drugs.
Deadly weapons in the form of improvised sharp objects and knives, ammunitions, televisions, karaoke and videoke sets and other electronic gadgets, gambling materials, cigarettes and an a bottle of Tanduay were also found during the operations.
Items recovered during the conduct of the Oplan Galugad.
The regional director suggests the commanders of the jail wardens to tighten their security. Jail wardens whose facilities were caught with the illegal items were also warned by the chief to do well in their jobs or be reported to their bosses.
Putting up CCTV units in jail facilities was also suggested by Cruz to be able to monitor the in and out of items.
Cruz again assured the public that the police are serious in its implementation of the war against illegal drugs in the country and that more Oplan Galugad will be conducted in the region in random dates while he is regional director.
