Actress Lindsay Lohan’s notorious reputation once again made headlines when the ‘Mean Girls’ star was arrested Thursday morning and charged with third-degree assault after a fight at a nightclub in the Chelsea section of New York City, police said.

The 26-year-old Lohan allegedly struck a woman, 4 a.m. on Thursday at Club Avenue on 10th Avenue and 17th street.

A desk appearance ticket was received by the actress after she was taken to New York’s 10th precinct and just after 7:30 a.m was seen leaving the courtroom, the police said.

A dispute that escalated led Lohan to allegedly assault the woman.  Earlier this year the actress, a regular at the club, was banned from the establishment following an incident in which she Tweeted that Justin Timberlake was seeing another woman at the club aside from his fiancée Jessica Beall.

On September, Lohan was arrested outside a nearby nightclub inside the Dream Hotel, when a pedestrian claimed the actress hit him with her car and did not stop.  However, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office declined to prosecute that case.

Lohan also got involved in a hotel room quarrel late in September triggered by a set of cellphone photos alledgedly taken by Christian LaBella, a part time Congressional aide.  LaBella was arrested on an assault charge by Lohan , but  later the charged was dropped.

The actress just finished a film “Liz & Dick,” in which she portrays Elizabeth Taylor.  It premiered last Sunday and was watched by 3.5 million viewers.  The film is touted as the actress’ comeback following years of trouble with the law.

The actress was incarcerated six times, while living in Los Angeles, but spent less than a total of two weeks behind bars.   She also spent 35 days under house arrest last year after pleading no contest to stealing a $2,500 necklace.

Lohan has been in and out of rehab five times in the past five years as she battle alcohol and drug problems.
