Students from the different State Universities and Colleges in Eastern Visayas will soon receive its five thousand Yolanda cash grant from the government as the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) releases the master list of the qualified students in the region.
CHED have already submitted the list of the 45,551 college and university students qualified for the said cash grant to the Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) in the region. According to Gabino Petilos of the Student Scholarship Services of the CHED Region 8, their office is now preparing the payroll to be submitted to the schools prior to the release of the grant, he added.
Some schools, including the Eastern Visayas State University have already ported the lists of the qualified students.

Only students who are not beneficiaries of any government funded scholarships can avail of the said cash grant. The CHED national office has given Eastern Visayas more than 60,000 slots for the grant but according to Petilos, it was only last August 10 when they were informed of this number of allotment.
They could have maximized the number if only they were informed earlier, said Petilos in an exclusive interview. The HEIs were also informed upon receiving the information but only few submitted additional lists, according to him.
The funds for the said grant has not been given yet to the provincial office of the CHED and is still not certain as to when will be the release date. According to Petilos, the money is still at the central office and they are still waiting for the orders from the national level.
It was Febuary this year when the CHED requested the HEIs to submit list of qualified students for the grand but only few submitted by the end of April. It was later on extended until July 27 through the request of the Tacloban City Government.
