PHILIPPINES— The father of the Maute group, Cayamora, died yesterday, August 27, 2017 while detained at Camp Bagong Diwa, according to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).

According to Senior Insp. Xavier Solda, BJMP spokesperson, Cayamora was rushed to Taguig-Pateros District Hospital at around 03:07. Initial reports said Cayamora’s nurse detected a drop of pulse rate from the patient which led them to bringing him to the nearest hospital.

The bureau has not confirmed yet if Cayamora was already dead when brought to the hospital. He was also diagnosed of diabetes and hepatitis prior to his detention.

Meanwhile, AFP chief Eduardo Año on Sunday said, the death of the father of the Maute brothers was an unfortunate incident for his family but more so for the victims of the war in Marawi who were expecting Cayamora to cooperate with the ongoing operations and awaits for justice to be served.

Cayamora is the father of Omarkhayam and Abdullah Maute who led the attack in Marawi.

It was June 6 of this year when Cayamora was arrested in a checkpoint in Davao City with his wife, daughter and son-in-law where a grenade and a 45-caliber pistol was discovered inside their vehicle.
The government suspects that cayamora has direct involvement with the attack in Marawi.
