Barney Redfield (43) was married to Helga Groeschlin (46) for ten years. The two met in San Francisco and dated for two years before they tied the knot in 1997.
However, Redfield recently filed for divorce on “accusations of false pretenses” against his ex-wife, Groeschlin, and suing her for $1,750,000 in damages after she apparently pretended to be a woman even when she was born a man.
This was triggered by Redfield’s coworkers’ teasing him that his ex-wife was born a man. Redfield became confused, he tried proving to them that Helga was a legit woman by showing them a photo of her.
“My coworkers started teasing me last year about my wife being a man after I had shown them a picture of her. They kept teasing me for months and that’s when I got suspicious and finally confronted her about this issue” –Redfield
“I was so convinced she was a woman, I even had a vasectomy weeks after we got married since I already had kids from a previous union and we had decided not to have any more” –Redfield said after hearing his wife’s response.
But Helga disputed that it was impossible that Barney never knew this because she has never undergone gender reconstructions even during their 10 years of being married together. Helga said that she uses hormones to grow her chest but without any surgeries at all. In other words, she still has her male parts.
Finally when the judge asked Barney about this, he responded, “I just thought she had a very large clitoris. I didn’t want to make her uncomfortable about it, I never asked any questions.”
Helga was stunned upon hearing her ex-husband’s response because she never tried hiding anything from him throughout their relationship. She didn’t even try hiding her male parts because they regularly showered together and told the judge that Barney has seen her many times standing up while peeing.
This was never an issue for both of them until Barney’s coworkers started teasing him about Helga’s true gender.
It made everyone confused about it and so Barney invited his mother and kids to testify and support his claims but he was surprised by their answers.
Redfield’s mother and kids told the court: “It was pretty obvious to us all. Helga is such a nice person and I always thought my son was gay anyway, so it wasn’t shocking to me”
How would you react if you are put in this kind of situation?
