Five children were pronounced dead after drowning in a river in Barangay Hacienda, Bungallon, Pangasinan, Tuesday morning, April 14.

Authorities said on Wednesday that the five children – three siblings and two of their cousins – drowned in a creek during a family outing.

The victims were believed to be playing near the river before they decided to swim, eventually going to a deep part of the water, causing them to drown.

Police said that the parents of the fatalities did not how to swim, thus they rushed off to seek assistance when the kids shouted for help.

The victims where identified as the Ambos siblings Rose Ann, 14, Nelson, 12, and Carlo Marco, 11; and their cousins Christine Lee Salazar and Manuel Bugayong Madrid, 11.

Their bodies were recovered hours after the incident, authorities added.

Police are now investigating on the accident.

Local reports revealed that there is an illegal quarrying in the area causing the said river to become deep.
