VALENZUELA CITY, Philippines – Some 500 families lost their homes and at least 2 people were injured after a fire annihilates a residential area in Valenzuela City shortly after noon Wednesday.

Before firefighters placed the fire in Gen. T. de Leon village that started at 1:00 PM, it reached Task Force Alpha. But they have managed to put it under control at 2:45 PM, reports dzBB.

The fire spread quickly to most of the houses that were made of light materials. Some 400 houses burned-down even as residents tried to save their belongings, says the report.

2 days before the start of the Fire Prevention Month, Wednesday’s fire occurred.

Estimated damage to property is at Php 1 million according to arson investigators.

Children were playing with matches, as the initial investigation shows when they looked into causes of the fire. Report also said that the fire started at the house of a Randy Miguel.
