Palo, Leyte—Operatives of the PNP Regional office here seized a significant amount of Methamphetamine Hydrochloride, popularly known as “Shabu” worth 720, 000 pesos  in a recent ant-illegal drugs operation in Kananga, Leyte.

The operation was done after weeks of surveillance by the Anti-illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (AIDSOTG) and agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

Police Chief Superintendent Elmer Ragadio Soria, Eastern Visayas police director, said the operatives conducted a sting operation and implementation of search warrant against the suspect at his home in Bantiller St, Poblacion, Kananga, Leyte.

Director Soria said, “The confiscation and arrest of the suspect was a product of weeks of surveillance on his activities.”

Authorities first lured the suspect into entering a drug deal with a poseur-buyer. Then the police set up the buy-bust operation. The undercover agent who acted as poseur-buyer was able to purchase P500 worth of shabu from the suspect, and then the team led by Police Chief Inspector Santi Noel Matira announced a buy bust.

The suspect was immediately collared and served the search warrant.

Confiscated by operatives from the suspect were five big sachets of shabu in transparent cellophane valued at 700,000 pesos and three medium-sized sachet of shabu with an estimated value of P20, 000 together with assorted illegal drug paraphernalia.

Representatives of the media and barangay officials of Poblacion, Kananga, Leyte witnessed the drug raid.

The suspect who is now detained at the Palo police station after being brought to PDEA for documentation will be charged for violation of sections 5, 11 and 12 Article II of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Drugs Act of 2002.

The confiscated marked money and illegal drugs were turned-over for physical examination to the Regional Crime Laboratory.
