It has been more than 40 years since his death, and yet St. Pio of Petrelcina, more popularly known as Padre Pio, has maintained an incorruptible corpse, prompting Christians, as well as spectators from all over the world, wonder if he is once again making miracles happen.

The holy monk, who became well known for his stigmata and capabilities to heal the sick through divine intervention, passed away in 1968. His corpse is sealed in a glass coffin and placed in a church in Petrelcina, where pilgrims flock to each year. But while exposed to lighting because of the transparent glass, the skin of the saint has not shown any sign of decay or damage.

During his lifetime, Padre Pio was active in doing both corporal and spiritual works, as well as in mysticism. His stigmata, which he bore for fifty years, was believed to be a manifestation of divine intervention, while his prophecies were well-received by members of the Christian faith.

Upon his death in 1968, his intercessions were recognized by the Roman Catholic Church, until he was declared a saint by Pope John Paul II in 2002.

Is Padre Pio’s corpse incorruptible due to divine intervention, or just a glitch of science? You decide.
