MANILA, Philippines–The convicted bank robbery gang leader Herbert Colangco who owns the fully-equipped music studio discovered during the raid on Monday of luxurious living quarters of 19 convicts has won a music award and an album which reached platinum status under his belt.
“Herbert C,” won the “New Male Recording Artist” award at the 6th Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) Star Awards for Music last September for his debut album titled “Herbert C: Kinabukasan,” according to a report from entertainment news website Pep.ph.

A convicted bank robber, Colangco came under fire last May because he was brought outside the NBP to seek treatment for his purported urinary tract infection. During Monday’s raid, authorities discovered eight watches -five Rolex, one Philip Stein and one Cartier–in his possession.
The raid, led by Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, yielded expensive watches, a life-sized sex doll, sauna, jacuzzi, among other luxurious amenities and items found in the quarters of 19 “very important prisoners” at the Maximum Security Compound in the NBP.
Meanwhile, De Lima on Wednesday said she saw nothing wrong with inmates of the New Bilibid Prison displaying their talents while in detention, even if it would result in a record that even went platinum.
“What I found was wrong in the case of inmate Herbert Colangco, or the artist known as Herbert C, was the conversion of his holding area or “kubol” into a music studio,” de Lima said on a report of Inquirer.
Huge speakers, a flat screen TV, a keyboard and even drum set were among the prohibited amenities found in Colangco’s kubol.
Cellphones, as well as signature clothes and accessories – among them Ray-Ban sunglasses and Rolex watches – were also found.
“The inspection was held in a bid to “completely incapacitate” the drug trade, noting that a “significant portion” of the said industry can be traced to inmates inside,” De Lima said through GMA News Online.
Twenty convicts have been transferred to an “undisclosed holding facility,” where they will stay until authorities are done dismantling the four “extravagant” units or kubol.
Court records and those of the National Bureau of Investigation indicate that Colangco is Herbert Romarate Colangco who has a media account of Colanggo.
