MANILA, Philippines – During the 112th Police Service Anniversary celebration on Tuesday, Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay, the guest of honor, called on the Southern Police District (SPD) through Director Chief Supt. Jose Erwin Villacorte to push through with the turnover of police jurisdiction of the Inner Fort from Taguig to the Makati Police Department in acquiescence with the order of the Court of Appeals.

“We were able to prove Makati’s historical and legal claim. Taguig was not able to present evidence and according to the Court, even submitted documents that were not attested to or cross-examined,” Binay said.

Binay also added that since the injunction by Pasig RTC on 1994 over the said areas was lifted by Court of Appeals, Makati can now resume its rightful jurisdiction.

He further said that the issue is not about the revenues but about public service.

“Glass towers, fancy restaurants, upscale shopping centers surrounding two barangays where the roads are made of dirt, where water is being rationed, where basic services are not readily available. We cannot allow this to continue. We are going to correct this injustice,” Binay said.

On the other hand, Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano also expressed that the city will appeal with the decision of the court because the relevant amount of tax revenues that came from the big companies who moved their offices in the area are used for many vital government programs.
