BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – Students of Marinduque State College had a field trip to Baguio City Thursday night.

According to police the field trip turned badly for the students when the bus they were on crashed into 2 other vehicles.

Cordillera regional police director, Chief Superintendent Benjamin Magalong said the mishap along Marcos Highway left six students and one of the teachers dead.

The students who died were namely, Diane Lauro, Mariel Mingi, Princess Ann Pastorside, Leopoldo Nana, Carlo Pintor and Mervin Molatino. The only teacher who died was identified as Jenny Liza Lantorva.

There were 31 students and two teachers from Marinduque State College in Torijos who went up to Baguio City for a field trip. With them were two tour guides, two reliever drivers, and the driver, according to Magalong.

Magalong further explained, they were on their way back to Manila traversing the zigzag road in Tuba, Benguet, at around 10:30 PM Thursday when their bus (AFB 769) crashed into a container truck and then into another passenger bus bound for Baguio.

6 of the fatalities were dead on the spot while the 7th was pronounced dead on arrival (DOA) at the Baguio General Hospital (BGH), Magalong added.

Meanwhile, the injured passengers were also taken to BGH, he said.

Faulty brakes caused the students’ bus to go wayward, investigators suspects.
